1. “Runway, Houses, City, Clouds” – the only song not available on any of either of the artists’ studio discography – feels like the Flaming Lips going through the motions, including the obligatory countdown. Meanwhile, the Flaming Lips’ cover of “Elephant” just sounds off, which is especially troubling since they’re the ones who inspired it in the first place.
2. Elsewhere, Tame Impala’s cover of “Are You a Hypnotist??” is missing the climactic backing vocals of the original, and they straight-up steal the guitar solo from Shuggie Otis’ “Strawberry Letter 23” as the outro for “Silver Trembling Hands” because they got tired of stealing from the Beatles, I guess.
