I admit it: I didn’t like it at first, but I do now and that appears to be a phenomenon common with every bubblegum bass track I’ve encountered thus far. But I knew it was catchy from the start: the sassy “YEAH?” after the “HEY QT” call; the different melodies and phrasings of “Yeah there’s something I want to say” and “I feel your hands on my body, every time you think of me.” True, maybe the lyrics are a little too self-aware (especially in the second verse: “I’ve got this new song and it’s the only one I wanna play”; “They played your new song, it’s like nothing I’ve ever heard before…BABY!!!“). True, the bridge is a standard bridge affair. True, it’s such a sugar rush that it means there’s an inevitable sugar crash and I very rarely need to hear it past the bridge.
But you know what? I’ve been so cynical with music being released in 2014 that encountering a song that makes me want to dance, that makes me want to melt and that makes me want to be alive is more than enough for me.
